Arnolds 2019 a huge success

The 2019 Arnold Classic Taekwondo Championships, or affectionately known as the Arnolds, was a huge success. The event was held as part of the Arnolds Sports Festival Australia in Melbourne on March 16th.

With over 200 participants, we were not only the largest martial arts event of the festival, but also the largest sport.

Congratulations to event organizer, Master Michael Muleta, on once again co-ordinating a large and diverse group of people, from across multiple organizations, to work co-operatively to pull off a great event.

arnolds

Participants came from far and wide, with ITF, WT and independent schools travelling from across Australia and New Zealand to take part.

Events included both ITF and WT sparring, ITF Patterns, WT Poomse, Self Defense Demos and Team Demos.

We also featured for the first time, the inclusion of a Special Needs category.

The ‘Arnolds has now become an annual ‘must attend’ for many Taekwondo schools’ events calendars, with many already asking about the 2020 event.

The highlight, of course, was when the Terminator, Arnold Schwarzenegger himself, came to say hello to all the competitors and watch some spectacular martial arts action.

The ITF Hall of Fame Australasia was created to celebrate the great achievements and contributions of ITF members throughout the Pacific and Asian regions.

Following the outstanding success of the inaugural 2017 event, the ITF Hall Of Fame Australasia will become a featured annual event on the ITF calendar across the Australasian region.

With many fine Taekwon-Do practitioners, regional pioneers and high performers, the Australasian region has become one of the strong holds of the International Taekwon-Do Federation and now earns and deserves the respect it receives globally due to the efforts of these early pioneers.

The ITF Hall of Fame is not affiliated or aligned to any one ITF group, and as such, we welcome members from all ITF practicing schools and associations, who continue the legacy of the Founder, General Choi Hong Hi, through the adherence and promotion of his teachings.

The 2017 batch of inductees included multiple ITF World Champions, long serving association leaders, and high- profiled and successful Masters from across Australia and New Zealand.

We welcome supporters and nominees for our various categories, which you will see described in the relevant links.

There are a number of categories being awarded to celebrate and acknowledge the many fine contributions to ITF Taekwon-Do in the region.

The event was a success with attendees coming from New Zealand, Sunshine Coast, Canberra, Mildura and across many Melbourne schools. It was only significant as it featured members from several ITF groups training harmoniously and with the common goal of learning and improving their abilities in ITF Taekwon-Do, which is the very ethos upon which the Centre was  conceived and now opened.

Works are progressing well on the new ITF Centre of Excellence in Braybrook, Melbourne. Here’s a few of the latest snaps a few days before opening.
