Tournament Rules Global Open NZ

All competitors, coaches and officials must be familiar with the tournament rules and guidelines for THIS event.
ITF Sparring (Individual)
Protective equipment
All persons competing in sparring must bring their own protective equipment.
• ITF style – gloves, boots, mouthguard, groin guard (compulsory), head guard (compulsory for under 10 and optional for over 10), arm guard (optional), shin guard (optional)
Scoring:
• 4 points for jumping high section kick
• 3 points for high section kick, jumping mid section kick
• 2 points for mid section kick, jumping, hand attack
• 1 point for mid and high hand attack
All strikes must be controlled contact
No face punches for children UNDER 10 YEARS
All ages: No holding, No pushing, No kicks below waist, No kicks to the back, No hooks and uppercuts, No use of illegal tools (knee, elbow, head)
Warnings (3 warning = 1 point deduction)
• Out of bounds (both feet)
• Falling to floor (any part of body touches the floor other than the feet)
• Striking an illegal target – eg low or behind the back
• Using an illegal attack – eg a hook, knee
• Turning your back from your opponent to avoid fighting
• Avoiding fighting engagement – eg. running away
• Too much contact – eg. punching through the target
• Back chatting the referee
• Coach back chatting the referee
• Poor sportsmanship
The referee has the discretion not to give an official warning for accidental low and behind the back strikes if it was a consequence of a complex clash of techniques between the fighters, however will provide a verbal warning.
Penalties (1 point deduction), (3 warnings = 1 penalty)
• Deliberately attacking an illegal target
• Deliberately using an illegal attack
• Deliberately using too much contact
Bout procedure:
• Over 13 years – 1 x 3 minute round, Finals 2 x 2 minute rounds (1minute rest)
• Under 13 years – 1 x 2 minute round, Finals 2 x 1.5 minute rounds (45 sec rest)
• Under 7 years – 1 x 1.5 minute round, Final 2 x 1 minute rounds (30 sec rest)
Judges will score bouts, but indicate winners using flags.
ITF Sparring (Team)
Team must comprise of 3 persons (same gender)
• 1 round per match
• 2 points awarded for win
• Winning team is first to score 4 points.
• Each round will be 1.5 minutes in duration
Note: Team Sparring events will only take place where there is an opponent of same gender and age group. Age group is determined by the oldest member of the team.
ITF Patterns (individual)
Participants will perform individually
All Gups Colour belts) and Black Belts will perform One (1) Optional Pattern.
Patterns/Tuls will be scored out of 20 points based on factors including:
• Technical Accuracy (8 points)
• Rhythm (6 points)
• Power (6 points)
Placings will be 1st, 2nd, 3rd
Top 4 scores progress to the medal rounds, where top 1st and 2nd score playoff for gold, and 3rd and 4th playoff for bronze (Finals are decided by the flag system).
Where there is less that 4 in a division, then the highest score wins Gold, 2nd highest wins Silver, and 3rd highest wins Bronze.
ITF Team Patterns
Team will comprise of 3 persons (may be mixed gender)
Categories : Age categories will be decided after all entries are considered. Oldest person in the team determines the age category. Highest belt will determine the belt category.
Pattern: Team will perform a Pattern of their choice
Restrictions: Participants may be in maximum a of two teams, and each team cannot have more than one member who is in two teams. This is to encourage smaller clubs to enter more teams if they are short a member.
Judging Criteria :
Special emphasis in this division is placed on how the pattern is synchronized. Team can perform the entire pattern in unison, or can add creativity to the sequence timing, without substituting the correct techniques for others.
•Technical Content (8 points)
• Power (6 points)
• Synchronicity and Rhythm (6 points)
There will be 3 judges. Scores will run from 1-20
Places will be determined by the top 3 combined scores
Where a score is tied for a medal, then the applicable teams will repeat the Pattern again until the scores allow a final result.
Self Defense Demonstration
Self Defense (Pairs)
Categories: Will be determined once all teams are registered
Ages : Category will be based on oldest team member
Restrictions: Participants may only be in ONE Self Defense Pairs demonstration
If incorporating weapons, only blunt or padded weapons may be used.(no live blades)
Required Time of Presentation: A minimum of 6 defence sequences in the routine which can be one attacker – one defender, or shared attacker/defender. Maximum is 2 miniutes.
Goal of Presentation: To entertain the audience using multiple methods of demonstrating martial arts skills. Presentation should be fast paced, high energy, exciting, dramatic, and fun to watch.
Judging Criteria: Scoring will be based on overall performance rather than individual performances. The primary criteria being presentation, flow, realism, logical application of technique and quality of skill execution.
There will be 3 judges. Scores will run from 1 -20. The team with the highest total score will be the winner.
Technical and realism – 8 points
Fast and flowing – 6 points
Creative and entertaining – 6 points
Medals are awarded to all members
Special Techniques
Categories: Separated by Age Group & Gender
Ages : As per Registration categories
Goal of Presentation: Objective is to obtain the highest overhead kick, striking the target with the ball of the foot.
Judging Criteria: Scoring will be based on the highest successful kick. In the event of a tie, a maximum of 3 attempts will be made to separate the tied participants…. where participants cannot be separated after 3 attempts, the winner will be determined by competitor height (shortest person wins)
Competitors can perform their jumps anytime during their age category allocated time at the event.
Weapons Demonstration
Categories: Will be determined once entries are completed
Restrictions: Only blunt or padded weapons may be used.(no live blades or chains)
