Rockhampton 14Master Michael Muleta visited Rockhampton on the first weekend of August to conduct Black Belt Testings and seminars.

The event was hosted by Brown’s Dojang, and supported by McNae’s Martial Arts and students who travelled over 3 hours each way from Alligator Creek to Rockhampton.

On the Friday evening, students were put through a Rockhampton 6vigorous Degree testing , comprising of Patterns, various sparring types, self defense, breaking and theory.

Congratulations to new Sabum Wayne Brown, promoted to 4th Degree and Nikki Olzard promoted to 2nd Degree.

Saturday started with a Patterns seminar in the morning, where Master Muleta concentrated on Fundamentals, Power Generation, Training secrets Rockhampton 2of Taekwon-Do and various sequences derived from the ITF Tuls. He clarified some technique terminology and interpretation of General Choi’s documented patterns.

All students were given the opportunity to perform and receive some constructive feedback to help them improve.

After a break for lunch, Rockhampton students returned to be thrown, flipped, locked, blocked and struck, all in the name of Self Defense.

Rockhampton 7Master Muleta went through a range of Self Defense scenarios and applications of Taekwon-Do movements. Students enjoyed the session immensely and learnt a few new tricks along the way.

At the end of the seminar, Master Muleta spoke about the upcoming Arnold Classic Taekwondo World Championships, where many of the Rockhampton participants are attending.

Master Muleta is an 8th Degree Under Secretary of the International Taekwon-Do Federation, President & Technical Director of United ITF Taekwon-Do Australia.

He is also the Director of Thoroughbred Taekwon-Do and CEO of Global Fitness Institute.  He was inducted to the Australasian ITF Hall of Fame in 2018.

Congratulations to the latest group of Thoroughbred Taekwon-Do Black Belts promoted recently at the Balwyn (Vic) branch.

The testing panel comprised examiner Master Michael Muleta and branch instructors Justin Chin and Jeremy Chin.

The batch of new 1st Degree Black Belts included  Ben Gale, Hayden Nguyen, Spencer Yap and Lachlan Nguyen. 

The boys were put through the rigors and standards of the International Taekwon-Do Federation and the National Organization, of which Master Muleta is President, United ITF Taekwon-Do Australia Inc.

Each performed admirably across Patterns, Self Defense, Breaking, various forms of Sparring and Theory, earning well deserved promotion.

Gradings do form an important part of Taekwon-Do training, and play a role in maintaining and elevating standards as well as keeping students motivated to maintain focus, consistency in training and to strive for improvement.

Thoroughbred Taekwon-Do won the “Best Overall Club” trophy for Best Team at ITF Oceanic Championships (1999), Master Choi Cup (2003, 2005), ITF Australasian Championships (1995, 1996, 2001, 2004), ITF Australian Championships (1994, 1997, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2005,2006), ITF Victorian Championships (1994, 1995, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005,2006,2007, 2008, 2009).

We are pleased to announce that Grandmaster Choi Jung Hwa will be accompanied and assisted by Grandmaster Trevor Nicholls during his seminar visit to Melbourne in January 2018.

The International Instructor course and ITF Masterclass will run on the 27th – 28th January, and are open to all ranks (Masterclass) and from 1st gup upwards (IIC Course).

Master Trevor Nicholls is an 8th Degree ITF Master, well respected the world over. It will be his first visit to Australia since 2009.

He has been training for over 35 years and teaches regularly at club, regional, national and international level. 

He is very active in the development and promotion of  Taekwon-Do through the International Taekwon-Do Federation, under the Presidency of Choi, Jung Hwa, son the Choi, Hong Hi, the Founder of Taekwon-Do. 

Master Nicholls is Secretary General of the British Taekwondo Council, the National Governing Body for Taekwondo recognised by UK Sport.
