thoroughbred black belt test dec19

Thoroughbred Taekwon-do conducted it’s annual Black Belt examinations yesterday in Melton, Victoria. we welcome a new thoroughbred Black Belt and some advanced degrees.

It was a very historic day for the club with it most senior internal Black Belt promotion since its formation in 1994.

Balwyn instructor Justin Chin was promoted to 6th Degree Black Belt after a vigorous testing regime. The test included all black belt patterns, various types of sparring, self defense, breaking and theory.

The promotion makes Justin the most senior Thoroughbred Taekwon-Do Black Belt outright, under the school’s founder and director, Master Michael Muleta.

Justin has be a wonderful leader of the school, setting a great example of loyalty and selfless contribution for close to 20 years.

Also promoted was his younger brother, and branch assistant, Corey Chin. Corey was promoted to 5th Degree Black Belt.

It sets up a very unique family combination of 3 Thoroughbred Taekwon-Do Black belts, Justin 6th Degree, Jeremy 5th Degree and now Corey 5th Degree. Master Muleta fondly refers to them as the Chin Dynasty.

Just as significant is that the brothers have spent close to 20 years in the same school. This is certainly a rare quality in today’s organization hopping culture.

Anna Blake was promoted to 2nd Degree Black Belt along with John Vos promoted to 1st Degree.

We welcome John to the Thoroughbred Taekwon-Do Black Belt club.

Congratulations to all promoted Black Belts.

The following day Master Muleta headed across the other side of town to conduct 2 seminars at the Choong Moo Taekwon-Do school in Amaroo, hosted by Sabum Jordan Steele.

The first seminar again covered ITF Sparring, with a high percentage of red and black belts, the session focused again on footwork and drills, but with a greater emphasis on ring craft, strategies and simulated match play.

As there was no grading afterwards, students were pushed to the point of exhaustion and worked very hard in a grueling session.

After a short drink break, seminar 2 then focused on self defense, or more specifically unarmed combat.

Master Muleta covered areas such as awareness and decision making, vital spots and choosing appropriate attacking tools along with covering various self defense scenarios.

Students went through releases, joint locks, take downs and improvisation drills in a solid session.

Thank you to the hosts of both days.

Master Muleta Nepal Seminar

On Sunday 20th September a seminar was conducted by Master Michael Muleta, 8th Degree President and Technical Director of United ITF Taekwondo Australia (INO#23)
The initiative was borne out of discussions between Master Muleta and Mr Basnet at the time of the Nepal Earthquakes, and an offer of assistance from Master Muleta, who had previously received citations from the ITF for his charity work after the Asian boxing Day Tsunami.
Over 70 participants attended from different schools, many more were unable to attend due to road closures as a result of political unrest, due to a major Government announcement the day before, which made safe travel from Kathmandu impossible.
From 10am to 12noon, the seminar concentrated on ITF fundamental movements and technique development. Master Muleta focussed on the training secrets of Taekwondo, according to the Founder, General Choi Hong Hi.
All participants loved it, and learned so much from Master Muleta’s vast technical knowledge and experience as well as his unique ability to communicate with all ages and nationalities, blending serious technical information with fun activities and demonstrations of application.
In the afternoon session, Master Muleta focussed more on ITF Tuls and then unarmed Self Defence techniques for 3 hours.
As the seminar went beyond the junior ranks levels, they were sent to another section to train with Mr Phill Zdybel, also from Australia.,
At the completion of the seminars Master Muleta presented Certificates to all participants and gave a very motivating and inspirational speech for the ITF people of Nepal.
Mr. Blair Martin and Mr. Laxman Basnet also gave some speeches to the participants.
Over an hour of group photos, individual photos with special guests autograph signing ensued.
During this event all participants from Nepal and abroad had a wonderful experience, making new friendships, renewing old ones and most of all enjoying Taekwondo in its truest form.
ITF Nepal issued an invitation to Master Muleta to return soon on the future and it is hope that more participants from more countries will take the chance to come and experience Nepal and its culture, as well as Taekwondo.
Thank you for the kind and generous support of Master Michael Muleta and all others who supported.
Taekwon!
